Baby Exersaucers – Looks Like A Walker With Toys Attached But Doesn’t Move

Baby exersaucers are items that help your baby build muscle strength while learning basic coordination skills – all this while your baby has lots of fun. As exersaucers are stationary, they are a lot safer than walkers. This stationary entertainment center allows your baby to play, rock, jump and spin. The attached toys keep him or her busy for quite a while.

These toys are all easily accessible so that the baby can grab, squeeze and pound to his or her heart’s content. Most parents concur, “exersaucers are really the most entertaining and by far the safest form of activity center for young babies.” Most exersaucers are pretty durable, as they are made to withstand constant hammering from little hands.

While choosing an exersaucer, select one that has several height adjustments. The seat should spin 360 degrees. A wide array of attractive toys, colorful as well as fun, is a must in a good exersaucer. Carefully note all the toys: they should ideally have different sounds, textures and colors. Also check to ensure that there are no small pieces that come off to pose potential choking hazards for your baby.

Some exersaucers go beyond the basics and allow your baby to stand up and become part of the action. Some on-board toys spin, talk, flip and even make music to keep your baby entertained. Some saucers are educative as well as fun. One, for instance, displays animal pictures with corresponding animal noises and animal names in English. Some saucers go one step beyond attaching the toys.

They have a toy arch that suspends plush toys right at the baby’s eye level.

Interactive toys and lights allow parents to join in the fun. Several of the toys can even convert to advanced play levels when the play center is ready to be used by a toddler. A snack compartment helps keep goodies where children can reach them.

Like all equipment for babies, safety and portability are two important considerations when you decide which exersaucer to purchase. The saucer should fold neatly to facilitate easy storage and portability.

Additionally, some saucers allow you to detach a number of toys when you have to travel.
Safety tips:

Never leave your baby unattended in a saucer. The exersaucer is only a diversion, not a substitute parent.

Only babies who can hold up their heads and have some amount of head and back balance should be placed in the exersaucer. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines regarding maximum and minimum age, ideal weight etc.

Never carry your baby when he or she is in an exersaucer.

Use the safety restraint systems ALWAYS. Double check that the baby is safely strapped in.

Your saucer may start showing signs of wear and tear sooner than later, thanks to your little tyke’s pounding, rubbing, banging and chewing. Therefore, it is essential to check your saucer regularly for loose pieces and sharp edges.

The only downside of a saucer is that too much seems to be going on at the same time. With all the sounds, colors, lights and toys flashing at him or her, your baby may get over stimulated. It’s therefore not advisable to keep your baby in the saucer for a long period of time. Also, remove a number of toys, and rotate the toys every once in a while.
